Wordless Wednesday Image
Wordless Wednesday Image

Welcome to today’s Wordless Wednesday!  These photos are of a mushroom WIP I’m making out of polymer clay!  Jebediah is about 1 1/4 inches high.  I will be putting him in a scene that will go on Etsy!  Woo hoo!  I’m still working on him, but I hope to have him finished by next week!  I’d love to hear ideas for the scene!  I was thinking a little creature of some kind.  Maybe a snail?

See you next week!  Love and Light!

Zeus Has a Rough Life

I am pretty sure my kids are jealous of our german shepherd dog, Zeus.  LOL  He is so spoiled!  But you wouldn’t hear that from him.  He is constantly pouting and throwing tantrums (staring silently)!  Really, as you can see, Zeus has a very rough life.  LOL

Zeus has a rough life
Well, in all fairness, we only give him raw hamburger, and Milkbones, and scads of tennis balls, and real bones, and cheese, and ice cream, not to mention the hugs and scratches and he basically has his own couch.  But we have been so neglectful not to give him his own remote!!!  I’ll go to a cave and live in shame now.  😉

20 Questions Blog Hop w/EclecticEvelyn March 21 2018

This fun post is in response to a cool Blog Hop I came across!  It’s a 20 Questions Blog Hop!  You can play along by going over to Eclectic Evelyn’s post!  This was my first time to her blog, and boy was I surprised when I got to her 2nd answer and realized we live in the the SAME STATE!!!  Wild and Wonderful West Virginia baby!!!  Yeah!!!  LOL

question photo

So, with no further ado, on to the 20 questions!

  1. Do you have pets?  Yes, we have a German Shepherd named Zeus, and a cranky kitty named Meow Meow!
  2. Hang gliding or whitewater rafting?  I have a fear of both falling and drowning, so that’s a hard choice, but I’m with you, Evelyn, I’d have to choose rafting!  Or maybe a log ride at Camden Park?  LOL
  3. Have you ever traveled outside of the United States?  Yes, I have been to Canada once on vacation.
  4. How many states have you visited?  I think it would be about 8 states.  Basically from New York to Florida!
  5. If you could have any magical power what would it be?  Being able to change into anything!  I think it would be fun to flit like a butterfly or cruise the oceans like a whale!
  6. Stilettos or sneakers?  I’d choose barefoot as well, but next would be sneakers (or tennis shoes, as I call them).
  7. Instagram or Snapchat?  I don’t get Snapchat at all.  LOL  My kids love it!  I much prefer Instagram!  Maybe that’s because I AM a “gram”???  They call me GRAMma!  LOL
  8. The journey or the destination?  Another toughie!  In general, I’d have to say the journey.  Although, if the destination were Hawaii, I’d have to reserve the right to change my mind!
  9. What are you grateful for this month?  SPRING!!!
  10. What book are you reading?  Harry Potter has ruined me for all other books.  LOL
  11. What did you eat for dinner last night?  Baked potatoes!
  12. What is something currently on your to-do list that has been there more than a month?  Give the dog a bath.
  13. What is the first thing you reach for in the morning?  My glasses.
  14. What is your favorite ice cream flavor?  Reece Cup.
  15. What is your favorite local restaurant for breakfast?  Breakfast…. that’s that meal that morning people eat, right?  LOL
  16. What is your favorite season?  Summer!
  17. What is your state’s motto or slogan?  Mountaineers are always free.  Or… West Virginia Wild and Wonderful!
  18. Where do you think all the lost socks go?  I think they’ve gotten stuck in a parallel Universe.
  19. Who is your favorite Disney Princess?  The Little Mermaid= Ariel
  20. What question would you like me to ask in next month’s hop?  Diet Coke or Diet Pepsi?  LOL

That was fun!  Thank you Evelyn!  I hope to play again!  Everyone is welcome to play along by going to Evelyn’s post!

Small Space Gardening Ideas

Gardening Season is fast approaching, and I can’t wait! There is NOTHING like a fresh, straight from the garden tomato! We are lucky enough to have a good bit of space for a “proper” garden, but I know there are many of you who don’t. So, I’d like to share some tips and ideas that will help you grow a good bit of food in a small space garden!

Laundry Basket Strawberry Planter

I really love this idea! Instead of using the little flower pot style strawberry planter, that really doesn’t give you a very big harvest, why not UPSIZE that and use a laundry basket? This video will show you exactly how to create your very own large strawberry garden that will only take up a couple feet of space on your patio or yard! This video shows you can put flowers on the top, but you could also put another food crop, such as lettuce!

Watch below, or click this link to go to YouTube!  https://youtu.be/a2QcU0wYuac

Vertical Wall Garden

Another new way to grow when you have a little yard to work with is Vertical Raised Bed gardens! Not only can you grow a LOT of plants in a small and normally unused space, but it’s also quite beautiful to look at! This way is especially nice for people who have back issues, or trouble bending over for whatever reason. It’s great for kids, older adults, or the disabled! https://youtu.be/WznAAAJEVmw

Square Foot Garden

Square Foot Gardening has been a popular and effective choice for many people since the 1980’s. It involves building a small structure that can be divided into 1-foot squares, where you grow a certain type of plant in each. It’s easy to maintain, and you can get a good amount of food, but it can be hard for those with mobility problems who can’t bend over. Although, there is a raised bed version that might be a little easier to reach for some people. https://youtu.be/f2FxJimob84

Grow Large Vegetables in Containers

From what you’ve seen so far, you might be thinking you can only grow SMALL vegetables in these small space gardens, but that is not true. You can absolutely grow larger fruit and vegetables in a very small space! Things like tomatoes, and even watermelon! Yep! But in this way, you could totally use smaller containers for smaller things, or plant many things in these type of grow bags! https://youtu.be/xKKuI-RHcvk

Well, I hope you’ve found these ideas helpful! Have you ever tried growing in a small space? What was your experience like? Please let us know in the comments! ~Love and Light~

Shan’s Tasty Cheeseburger Pie Casserole

Shan's Cheeseburger Pie Casserole

We’ve tried the classic Cheeseburger pie before, but found it a bit bland, so I thought I’d try something a little different.  I’m known for “doctoring” recipes quite a bit, so I played with it, and this is what I came up with!

I added celery, garlic powder, and brown mustard, then also adjusted the original ingredients a bit.  I didn’t do it this time, but it would also have been good to add some bell pepper or pickled banana peppers!  I’m not crazy about chunks of cooked tomatoes, but if you are, then that would probably be good too!  And if you don’t have Bisquick on hand, try my DIY Bisquick Recipe!

Please let me know if you try it!

Recipe Notes

You could also add bell pepper, banana peppers, tomatoes, or whatever you like!

Shan's Cheeseburger Pie Casserole

Shan's Tasty Cheeseburger Pie Casserole

This is my take on Impossible Cheeseburger Pie!  We love this delicious alteration that just has a little umph!  This is great for a large family or potluck dinner!  Serves 8 - 10

  • 2 lb Lean Hamburger
  • 2 large Onions finely chopped
  • 2 stalks Celery finely chopped
  • 1.5 tsp Garlic Powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste
  • 3 cup Bisquick (or my DIY version)
  • 2 cup Milk

  • 2 tsp Brown Mustard
  • 2 cup Velveeta or Cheddar Cheese cubed or shredded

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.

  2. Saute onion and celery until almost tender, then add hamburger, garlic powder, and salt and pepper,  and continue cooking until hamburger is browned.  Drain.

  3. Place hamburger mixture in a 9 x 13 greased baking dish.  Arrange cheese on top.

  4. Mix remaining ingredients in a large bowl until blended (it should be thin enough to pour.  Use more or less milk if necessary.), then pour on top of hamburger mixture.

  5. Bake in preheated oven until toothpick comes out clean.

  6. Remove from oven and let sit 5 minutes before serving.

Homemade DIY Bisquick Alternative Recipe

Do you ever get the feeling we really overpay for some grocery items?  One thing that is a total splurge item for me is Bisquick.  I might pick it up if I want to make something that day, and am just hurting too much to fool with doing it from scratch, but I like to keep some homemade Bisquick on hand when possible.  That’s why I like being able to make a DIY alternative!

It’s so versatile and really easy to make.  You can do it in a food processor or a blender (although it’s a bit of a nuisance that way because you have to stop and stir a lot), but if you don’t have them or don’t want to use them, you can totally do it by hand.  You just “cut” the shortening into the flour with a tool for that or a fork, or even with your hands!  No matter which way you do it, you just keep working it till it looks kind of like cornmeal.

My favorite use for it is biscuits!  What is your favorite Bisquick recipe?

13 Brilliant Things you can do with a Glass Jar

Now I can FINALLY use up some of the old Mason jars my sister gave me when she moved!  Quart jar crafts are becoming so popular these days.  Back in the 90s, my Mom made several votive candles out of jars.  She painted scenes and flowers on them.  I still have mine displayed in a prominent spot!  She was really ahead of her time, huh?  LOL  Have you made any of them?  Feel free to leave a link to your jar project in the comments!
