I am pretty sure my kids are jealous of our german shepherd dog, Zeus. LOL He is so spoiled! But you wouldn’t hear that from him. He is constantly pouting and throwing tantrums (staring silently)! Really, as you can see, Zeus has a very rough life. LOL
Well, in all fairness, we only give him raw hamburger, and Milkbones, and scads of tennis balls, and real bones, and cheese, and ice cream, not to mention the hugs and scratches and he basically has his own couch. But we have been so neglectful not to give him his own remote!!! I’ll go to a cave and live in shame now. 😉
Gardening Season is fast approaching, and I can’t wait! There is NOTHING like a fresh, straight from the garden tomato! We are lucky enough to have a good bit of space for a “proper” garden, but I know there are many of you who don’t. So, I’d like to share some tips and ideas that will help you grow a good bit of food in a small space garden!
Laundry Basket Strawberry Planter
I really love this idea! Instead of using the little flower pot style strawberry planter, that really doesn’t give you a very big harvest, why not UPSIZE that and use a laundry basket? This video will show you exactly how to create your very own large strawberry garden that will only take up a couple feet of space on your patio or yard! This video shows you can put flowers on the top, but you could also put another food crop, such as lettuce!
Another new way to grow when you have a little yard to work with is Vertical Raised Bed gardens! Not only can you grow a LOT of plants in a small and normally unused space, but it’s also quite beautiful to look at! This way is especially nice for people who have back issues, or trouble bending over for whatever reason. It’s great for kids, older adults, or the disabled! https://youtu.be/WznAAAJEVmw
Square Foot Garden
Square Foot Gardening has been a popular and effective choice for many people since the 1980’s. It involves building a small structure that can be divided into 1-foot squares, where you grow a certain type of plant in each. It’s easy to maintain, and you can get a good amount of food, but it can be hard for those with mobility problems who can’t bend over. Although, there is a raised bed version that might be a little easier to reach for some people. https://youtu.be/f2FxJimob84
Grow Large Vegetables in Containers
From what you’ve seen so far, you might be thinking you can only grow SMALL vegetables in these small space gardens, but that is not true. You can absolutely grow larger fruit and vegetables in a very small space! Things like tomatoes, and even watermelon! Yep! But in this way, you could totally use smaller containers for smaller things, or plant many things in these type of grow bags! https://youtu.be/xKKuI-RHcvk
Well, I hope you’ve found these ideas helpful! Have you ever tried growing in a small space? What was your experience like? Please let us know in the comments! ~Love and Light~
I came across this poem called Homesick Hillbilly by Ellen Bailey, and I just had to share it, because I know how she feels. I had to leave my little one-horse hometown to find work. I’m still in WV, but I do wish I could go back to my little small town. I hope you enjoy this poem!
So, yesterday my german shepherd dog, Zeus, wanted to go outside. I thought he needed to go potty, but instead, he just went to the corner of the yard and sat down, then started sniffing the air. It seemed odd to me because he usually only does that when a neighbor is grilling out, but considering the temperature, I found that unlikely. The only thing I could think of was he was already smelling the snow that was supposed to (and did) come later that evening.
There is he is. On January 12th, sniffing the snow in the air. Handsome puppy, isn’t he? 😉
And guess what??!!!? He was RIGHT!!! This is January 13th! LOL We got between 5 to 6 inches of pure white snow. Although it doesn’t look so pure now. It looks like he’s saying, “See? I TOLD you, Mom!” 😉 Whenever it snows, he always comes inside with a snowy snout! He loves getting down in there and rooting around! He’s my big silly boy! Five years old, but still a puppy at heart!
Isn’t it funny how animals just KNOW things?? They seem to be psychic, don’t they? It just amazes me. Do you have pets that tell you things that are going to happen? I’d love to hear about it! Please leave your story in the comments!
Do you ever suffer from allergies or a stuffy nose? I sure do. Be it pollen filling the air outside, or various indoor allergens, like dust, pet dander, mildew, etc, I have it all. And it sure can cause problems with my sinuses! Lately, I’ve been having a stuffed up nose all the time, and finally, I got sick of it, and pulled out my Neti Pot.
A Neti Pot is a device (usually a ceramic vessel) that allows you to pour a safe, natural saline (salt) solution into your nasal cavity. The solution goes in one nostril, through your sinuses, and back out the other nostril or your mouth. This loosens and washes out any mucous or other yuckies to be cleansed from your sinuses. It’s really a very simple process, and I always feel lighter in my sinus area after using it!
It can be a little tricky to use at first, and some people are hesitant to try it, but It’s really not that bad. Here is a video showing how it’s done!
There are a couple main types of Neti Pot. The first is the kind you see in the video. Very simple and easy to use, but sometimes a little off-putting. The second is not really called a Neti Pot, but it serves the same purpose and makes it a little easier for people who just can’t handle the water draining back out. This is an electric style nasal irrigator that pumps the solution into one nostril, then sucks it back out of the other with a gentle suction feature. A very popular brand of that is called Navage. I haven’t actually tried this, but other people seem to like it!
If you’ve had problems like this, please share your experience in the comments! Have you tried nasal cleansing with a Neti Pot or some other technique? I’d love to hear what worked or didn’t work.
I love the holidays! And I can’t get enough of the nostalgic entertainment that abounds for Thanksgiving and Christmas! And because I’m a big kid, I especially love the cute and funny shows and images! Here are some of my favorites!
I hope you enjoy these little funnies! What are your favorite pics or videos for Thanksgiving?
This video was made by On The Road In West Virginia on Facebook. It is a small history of Gilmer county, which is where I grew up! I lived about 1 mile from Glenville, which is the county seat. I hope you enjoy this video, and go visit On The Road in West Virginia and watch all their videos!
Glenville is one of those “one horse towns” you hear about. When I lived there, it had 1 stoplight. At that time, I thought it was hokey and couldn’t understand what the appeal was, but I do now. It’s small and tightly knit. People are friendly and help each other. It’s relatively safe and quiet.
I used to go back home several times a year, but since my mother sold the house and moved in with my sister, I no longer have a place to go. I do miss it very much. Although, I have occasionally made it back for the WV State Folk Festival. I do miss my dad being there, though. He was a permanent fixture during most of them until he passed away. He and his brothers had played bluegrass music there, and many other places for years, and he still had jam sessions with lots of folks outside his camper even up in his last years. I would love, someday, to be able to live back home again!
Ever since I can remember, I have loved Halloween! My Mom always made me a beautiful costume! I was always a princess, but I didn’t mind. I loved seeing all the other kids dressed up in wonderful Five and Dime store or handmade costumes! And the kooky decorations were a delight! If things were MY way, we’d have Halloween all year long.
These days there is a plethora of costumes, decorations, home decor, and movies and shows to watch. Even the Etsy squad has got in on the fun with clothing, jewelry, toys, and decor to fit any taste with their homemade wonders!
But besides scanning through the many Pins on Pinterest full of wonderful, inspirational ideas, one of my favorite things I do to bring back that whimsical Halloween feeling I love is watching old shows and movies! You can’t always find time online, but here are a few that give me some spooktacular goosebumps of delight!
